Upcoming Events & Workshops

October 22, 10-5 At Cottonwood Center for the Arts

Cottonwood Center for the Arts is proud to present Textiles West, a new entity devoted to fiber art, design and education. Also a co-working space, Textiles West aims to inspire widespread awareness, participation and appreciation of fiber art with classes, tools and resources for artists, makers and artisans. Currently, only two other entities in North America offer services similar to Textiles West, TAC in New York City and Textile Center in Minneapolis.

With equipment such as a large format textile digital printer and a 72-inch felt loom (set for arrival at the end of the year), artists will be able to achieve their project goals on a professional level, with close control of the process and product. Co-working space will invite collaboration and support, with opportunities for workshops, retreats, and exchange programs.

Textiles West will launch with TACTILE, a day of demos, lectures and make-and-takes on Saturday, October 22. From 10 am to 5 pm, TACTILE will take over Cottonwood for the day, and feature hands-on activities like felted beads, block printing and weaving. Kids will enjoy visits from live animals, including alpacas from Wild Hair Alpacas, while adults can attend lectures like Asian textiles from Judy Arndt and plantation slave weaving by Mary Madison.

For more information about Textiles West and the full schedule of events for TACTILE visit our website!

Development of the Textiles West program was conceived within

Cottonwood Center for the Arts by a team of resident artists. Strategic collaboration and funding from the Richard Petritz Foundation makes the launch of this new center possible.
